How Classes Work

aquatics-how-classes-workEach year we do 4 different themed aquatic blocks, including dedicated safety and survival skill weeks. Our pool deck resources, parent tips, handouts and our safety weeks all match the theme of our blocks.

Our themes encourage a solid foundation of skills with commonly encountered scenarios for our swimmers in Tropical North Queensland.

We swim year-round in our fully enclosed heated warm mineral pool, and have certain times in each year for small breaks, make-up classes and ‘intensive’ swim lesson.

Class skills

All our pool classes develop the following skills:

Water safety

Safe entry & exit, survival skills, swimming confidence and education for families and children.

Water familiarisation

Underwater skills, breath control, water exploration, fun, enjoyment and social interaction.

Independent movement

Good body position, arm/leg co-ordination, correct techniques and developing endurance/fitness.

Our purposefully small program ensures personalized service – we guide our parents through the entire journey of learn-to-swim. It takes years to be a great swimmer and requires commitment, patience and lots of regular practice. Swimming and survival skills are best learnt gradually, building skills progressively.

In our babies and toddlers, we are mainly concerned with preventing drowning and developing aquatic skills so children are comfortable in water. We do a Shower Program before every Baby/Toddler class to reinforce water skills and keep our pool water clean.

Our parents know what songs/activities/equipment we will be using in advance and we communicate clearly what our skill focus is for the week. Whilst repetition is an essential part of learning for children, we like to challenge and stimulate too, so there are certain elements of our program that we happily change every week (like swim toys and water conditioning tools).

In our learn-to-swim program, the main focus is on stroke development and survival skill progression.  We utilize cue cards for stroke development practice before our Learn-to-Swim classes. This is because brain pathways are hardwired to more easily follow what has been practiced, which is why getting technical skills right is more important than simply practicing distance. It’s why we choose to teach in a smaller sized pool.

All our clients receive tips and helpful emails/reminder texts plus we share our program goals.
